Determination from an ungifted rider

I will be the first one to tell you that I am not a naturally talented rider. I have to work hard everyday to progress toward the riding goals I have set for myself.

However, what I may lack in natural talent, I make up for by continually educating myself as a rider. I do my best to take direction from my trainer and do exactly what she tells me to, in order to improve. I am receptive to constructive criticism. I take advantage of opportunities to learn more by reading articles and studying skilled riders. Most importantly I make sure to be attentive to the needs of my horses and to promote their health and happiness.

One of my favorite quotes by Calvin Coolige —

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
